The Society of Enlightened Dragonologist

Theresa and Cheri M. have asked me to comment on their launch of the Society of Enlightened Dragonologists . I, being a dragon of considerable age, can tell you ‘It is about time!’

I look forward to my two friends (I hope I can count Cheri among my friends and not trespass on what Keensight sees as ‘his property.’ He appears to be a very territorial dragon) setting long held misconceptions to rights. Let me expound…

I do not, and never have, eaten a human. In my land the type that could possibly push me to such an extreme action are not to be consumed by any rational dragon. Personal hygiene is not of top priority for blustering dragon slayers. This is not to say that I have not roasted, stomped on, clawed, or bitten my share of humans during battle. War always brings casualties and Dragons are very difficult to kill. For humans sometimes you are the poker, but most times you are the one being poked.

I also would appreciate it being set to rights that I DO NOT eat domesticated animals, this includes your dog, cat, rabbits, chickens, sheep, goats, cow, donkey, and horses. I happen to like wild game, elk being my favorite. ::licks muzzle with long pink tongue at the mere thought of a hindquarter of elk:: They are large enough to make them worth the killing. 

I also happen to have a cat of my own, Flutterby , and I am acquainted with several horses which I am on first name basis, Theresa’s sometimes annoying steed, Knicker, and Sarah’s mare Tolly. Both worth the time to pass a few words with if encountered.

There was heavy discussion among the ladies on Twitter that I might take exception and eat their sheep. I assure you that the wool is very repulsive and tends to get stuck in your teeth. My word, they went on about it. They were making armor for the little beasties and having jousting contests to get them ready for defending themselves. My lovely Maltese temptress, took the photo below to prove that I do not eat sheep. Note, they are placidly grazing. (Thank you Sweetheart! ::throws wing kisses:: )

And yes, I know Keensight often threatens to eat Cheri’s goats, but he also threatens to eat her on occasion and she is still here. ::grins::

So I raise a wing and salute to the forming of the Society of Enlightened Dragonologist! My vast reservoir of knowledge is at your service, ladies. May you bring our clans, culture and history into the light of the 21^st century.

I have various shades of green from forest to lime green scales. My eyes are golden unless I am angry and then they turn amber. I am old and wise, but have a young heart.

Response to the Five Important "Fs" of Dragonology by Cheri Matthynssens

Cheri recently wrote an article on her blog regarding the Five Important "Fs" of Dragonology.

To recap, Foresight, Fieldwork, Forwardness, Frankness and Fatalities. As I am a very old dragon, I would like to counter Ms. Matthynssens' research with my own research.

My observations of humans has led me to the Four "F's" of Humanity, Faithful, Formidable, Fun and Fleeting.

Faithful - Humans who are befriended and become friends with dragons are extremely faithful. I mean look at Cheri. Keensight repeatedly threatens to eat her and yet she continues to call him her friend. ::shakes wedged head in disbelief::

Theresa on the other hand puts up with me descending on her once a month to chat with my twitter friends. She must endure my humming at all hours of the day and night, sending earthquake sized seismic waves through the neighborhood when I do my happy dance, and repeatedly calming the neighbors over the sight of a 13,000lb dragon in their urban neighborhood.

Formidable - Humans can be quite daunting at times. Theresa for one is very stubborn. Once she sets her mind to something she cannot be swayed. As in the time, when she was a youngster and insisted I wear her bonnet. ::laughs in a deep baritone::

Though she was only 7 summers at the time, she would not take no for an answer, even from a dragon of my size. I am pleased she was not born a boy, later to become a knight. Had she, she would have been a formidable opponent and one I would have had to deal with, or move on to get away from.

Fun - Humans see fun in everything when they are young. It is a shame they grow up. Unlike hatchlings they grow way to fast to my liking. I could have done with a few more years of Theresa and her siblings being young and adventuresome. ::ruffles wings and hums a bit remembering::

Fleeting - Which brings us to my last "F." Human's lives are over far to quickly - the equivalent to a long nap for a dragon. You grow fond of them and they are too quickly gone.

So I say to Keensight, 'Appreciate your human while you can. You may not have her for long.' And if she wants you to wear a bonnet, do it! You might just find you look good in it ::grins toothily::

Farloft requested that I take to the keyboard in order to remind you he will be on my twitter account again this Friday, October 25, 2013.

@Scottishsnowdragon – He is in hopes he can persuade you to serve some of your lovely biscuits. He wanted me to tell you he will bring the lemon curd and Devonshire cream.

@DS_Books – Farloft says to tell Robert he is looking forward to talking to him again, in a polite tone, and that he still thinks a day or two in the wilds with James and him would do the ‘whelp’ a world of good.

@Yogoloth – He is looking forward to seeing you again and he wants to send you something special. He requested you drop me a DM with your email for the purpose of delivery.

@Balletmuzik – Farloft asked me to invite you to peak in. He loves music and is particularly fond of your piece “Reflections” from The Garden Within. He hopes he can talk you into playing it for him again.

@Crazyidealist – Farloft said to “Girdle your loins.” He intends to make you laugh again.

@szwriter – He hopes to have some in depth conversation with you regarding your anger issues and your misconceptions of historical facts. 

Farloft once again wishes to assure @adrianeVillano and @alxindia he has no interest in your sheep unless you intend to 1. Remove the wool (it gets stuck in his teeth), 2. Roast them properly with garlic, 3. And serve them with a bit of mint sauce on the side.

@Ofthewilds – He’s looking forward to discussing your relatively new site, Black Collar. He finds BC a fascinating tale.

I was pleased I could help in resolving issues between @CrazyIdealist and @szwrites even though it meant shattering well held misguided beliefs on the young man’s part. ::shakes head thinking of how the truth of stories has twisted over the years into almost unrecognizable tales::

I was happy to assist @DS_Books with Robert’s misbehavior. I do believe he is a good dragon at heart. He just needs a little firm guidance, like any teenager. I will endeavor to provide that as the situations present themselves. ::wish I could see Robert and make sure he isn't currently planning some sort of mischief::

My love to all my dragon clan for spreading the word and joining in the fun yesterday – a particular thank you to @OftheWilds and @finndragon. ::fully extends wings in salute::

And to all the lovely ladies, an assurance, I WILL NOT eat your sheep unless you provide them roasted, I far prefer wild game. No need to outfit them in armor. ::grins a lopsided toothy grin and shakes head at the thought::

And I will defend all the Fair Lady's honor should they require it with teeth and claw. ::inflates chest in pride::

Greetings and solicitations, 

"I would like to provide you with a bit of an introduction." :: ruffles wings and settles down on haunches before the computer:: "I am Farloft, resident dragon in the Kingdom of the Last Dragons."

"I was visiting a friend recently when I was introduced to Twitter via a glowing review" ::smiles a toothy grin:: "of a book in which I am featured, JAMES & THE DRAGON – the dragon in the title being no other than me." ::puffs out chest with pride::

"By popular demand" ::raises neck spines for emphasis:: "both from the reading public, Damyanti G (who wrote the charming article), and my fellow dragons, I have been asked to make an appearance on Twitter." ::raising neck spines succeeds in upsetting headset. Readjusts headset and gets back down to business::

"I am a dragon of advanced age, with I might say, a good bit of knowledge to pass on to my friends." ::fiddles a bit more with headset to get it just right. Blasted things a bit awkward, but gives a very dashing profile:: "So, I have consented to take up my headset and do a bit of tweeting each 2^nd and 4^th Friday of the month using Theresa’s account."

"I am surprised I had not heard of this Twitter ‘thing.’ It lends itself so well to a dragon. Though I would be loath to tweet like the blue bird on the herald, I do have wings. Also, Theresa has equipped me with a dictating program called Dragon Naturally Speaking. If it were not written with a dragon in mind, why would they give it such a name? 'Dragon' indeed...." ::smirks in the mirror. I really do look handsome. Wonder what Clearair will think of this?::

"We did have a bit of difficulty finding a headset large enough, but finally accomplished the task at the local 'Gear for Big and Tall Men' shop in something called a mall." ::adjusts headset once more and crinkles brow. Gazes at image once more in the mirror over the computer desk. Wonder if Theresa will let me wear it home?::

"My fellow dragons on Twitter, whom I have just recently met, have pointed out I will be tweeting on #FF. I am so pleased they have already established a hash tag in my honor. I understand from my friends that 'Follow Farloft' has been quite successful over the years."

"I might suggest that in order to assist people in finding other friends and followers than myself on Follow Farloft day, we might add an additional ‘F’ to make it #FFF. This might stand for any number of Follow tips:
